Home power sockets with built in USB ports

I’m on a mission to kill as many visible wires as I can throughout our home. As a part of that, I got a couple of these power outlets with USB ports built in. They work great!

Mine are slightly different. I didn’t like the USB port being blue so I had them send me ones with black ports.

I’m going to pair these with retractable iPod cables, for a super neat look.

This is all a hack until we get wireless power.

  1. Just make sure your outlet canisters are big enough to support these. I bought a pair for the barn (watilo.com/introducing-my-new-home-office-the-barn), but installed the canisters before these outlets arrived. Turns out they weren’t big enough (these plugs require extra large canisters), and replacing them would have required tearing open the whole wall. So sadly, my outlets are still sitting in their boxes here.

  2. I’ve got one of these sitting in a box on top of my fridge, same model. Waiting for my kitchen remodel to install it. I’m surprised more people aren’t going this way.
