All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good

[Apple] sells what’s widely held to be the best cell phone in the world starting at just $199 — reminds me of Andy Warhol’s great quote about Coke:

What’s great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.

It doesn’t matter how much money you spend, you can’t get a better phone than an iPhone. And at just $199, it’s accessible to almost every consumer with a cell phone. That’s pretty powerful.

  1. A friend of mine here in Sweden (an ex-telecom exec) bought an iPhone. He says it’s great for all the fun stuff you can do with it but terrible for making phone calls. hmm…

  2. <html><head></head><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><div>Nikki, 10s of millions of people clearly don’t agree with him. And they put down hard cash to prove it<br><br><span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.231373); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.231373); ">Sent from my iPhone</span></div><div><br></div></body></html>

  3. Yes, I know. I was surprised when he said that. I wonder if perhaps they don’t work as well in Sweden, or… ? Who knows. I don’t know anyone else here who has one (although many people DO, of course). My mom has one (in the U.S.) and doesn’t seem to have problems.
