Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

I was an Apple fanboy even before Steve returned to Apple. But I don’t think it will ever be the same.

What I wrote about Steve Jobs in 1999 when he took a leave of absence:

  1. I was an intern at Apple at the time so I think we just chatted about the intern experience. And I probably gushed about great it was to work at Apple 🙂

  2. That’s an awesome picture to have, one to be framed no doubt if it hasn’t been already!and I think you meant "What I wrote about Steve Jobs in 2009", not 1999 🙂

  3. The new CEO, Tim Cook, is from my home state, Alabama & even a grad of Auburn University where I also grew up & went to school in music. He’s already saying everything will remain the same. It will be interesting to see if you has the same type creative vision that Steve had. I hope so.
