We hiked the Hanakapi’ai Trail and got a week’s worth of exercise

Kate and I hiked the beginning of the Kalalau Trail today. We started at Ke’e Beach, all the way at sea level. Then we went straight up for about an hour. You can see how high we got in the first picture.

We went back down the mountain to get to Hanakapiai Beach, which you can only access via this trail. The views were spectacular. After a sandwich and short break, we went right back up to the top, and back down to Ke’e.

It was one of the hardest hikes I’ve ever done. The halfway point (just in the first direction) was both surprising and scary. The only time I have sweat more was when I did the Grouse Grind.

It was amazing.
