I’m looking for a new desk. The “Milk” looks amazing, but it’s not available in the US. Any other recommendations?

The Milk is a gorgeous, minimalist desk designed specific for Macs. It doesn’t get any cleaner or sexier than this. Unfortunately it’s $5000 and not available in this country. You HAVE to check out their website: http://www.milk.dk

Another interesting (but still too pricey) option, the OneLessDesk: http://hecklerdesign.com/onelessdesk

Anyone have other recommendations? Office Depot and Ikea desks are so boring! I just want something simple, no drawers, but designed for computers (hidden wire compartments, etc).

  1. Apple products don’t have that many wires right? =) In California, might be smart to get a desk that has some sturdy legs on it =/

  2. I have a Mac Pro and other crap at home, so the wires are pretty unmanageable.Europe has always had better home furniture and appliance design. In fact, the US makes very little hardware that’s good. Most of it is just cheap. (Apple is the exception)

  3. I really like "Milk". I say, if you like it, just get it! If you are going to spend tons of hours on it…it needs to be as perfect as possible. Perfect, at times, comes with a price. You will probably have it for years.

  4. The Galant desk at Ikea is a good buy (even though I know you said you think they’re boring). You can customize it however you like. There are also accessories for hiding cables, etc. Here is a photo of mine: http://bit.ly/7069dZ

  5. <html><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">Novanta looks cool! seems like it’s just a design though, not really for sale<br><div><div></div></div></body></html>

  6. The NYTimes article Hari linked ends with a great quote. ;-)–Reflecting further, Ms. Gomez wondered if the best new desk for all of us might be something that’s just really sturdy. “Something you could build a fort out of and hide underneath,” she said, “if times get really tough.”

  7. The Milk is a bit expensive, but you *can* get it in the US. There are various independent furniture stores that will act as distributors. I was looking into one of those about a year ago and a furniture store in Austin, TX was able and willing to ship one in. If you just fill out the form on their site (under "Buy Milk") someone will contact you.I grudgingly opted for a less-expensive solution, but that desk is amazing, ain’t it?

  8. I have ten of these desks in black availabe, incase you are interested in purchasing one, then I can ship to the US as well. Thanks

  9. The Milk desk is an UTTER RIP OFF!! It’s a desk people!! $5000 £3000+ YOU HAVE GOT TO BE J O K I N G!! NO desk is worth half that price.

  10. Have to agree with the comment above. It would probably be cheaper to get yourself a sheet of thick aluminium and have it lazer cut to your exact specification than buy this. Bit of a joke price I think. If you have this desk you probably have more money than brain cells.

  11. I’m in the U.K. I would buy this desk if it was anything up to about £1000 but more than three times that, I don’t think so. It’s a lush desk but, nah, not at that price.
