I got my MacBook Pro a few days ago to replace my Powerbook 1.25GHz. Here are my first impressions:

• The machine is definitely screaming fast. Even though it still only has 512MB RAM, it's noticeably much faster than my PPC. This machine is a Dual Core 1.87. Through my testing of Final Cut, I know that you trully get a speed increase with more MHz, and a second core or CPU really does make your computer faster. Apps like Final Cut are threaded to use the second core. And even if you don't run threaded apps, it's nice to be able to play iTunes, encode a DVD, and do other processing and have your UI still be quick and responsive.

• The built in iSight is awesome. Video conferencing is available everywhere I go. If you ever want to see where I am, just ask and you can see :)

• I love the trackpad scrolling using two fingers. Being able to scroll using your trackpad is essential, and I always used a shareware program called SideTrack to achieve this before. Now it's built it, and I think it's superior. You just put two fingers down and now when you drag, it scrolls. The great thing here is you don't have to move your fingers to the side of the trackpad to scroll. And you can scroll both vertically and horizontally by just moving in any direction. That's really great for panning around a photo.

• Front Row rocks. It was amazing when I saw the demos, but it's really just astounding when you can use it on your computer with all your media. It really is perfect for anyone who uses their computer for playing media.

• I'm a little torn on the new magnetic power connector. It's an awesome idea and works flawlessly. But it sucks that none of my other power connectors work anymore.

• This machine is HOT
